pilates CLASSES

pilates & me
I started practicing Pilates when I was 25, while I was living in Brussels. Many dancers were using this method to make the spine flexible, to tonify deep muscles (which help to protect the body from injuries during athletic performance) and to strengthen their mind.
I was so intrigued by their enthusiasm that I tried one class. I must admit that at first I felt like a fish out of water. As a dancer I was used to move in space like a feather in the wind, but now I had to work in a more confined area, in which every gesture was limited by the partner close by. Moreover, the teacher was constantly asking us to control our breath. It wasn't easy at all.
But after the eighth lesson, I remember the sensation while I was walking home on foot. During the promenade I had time to listen to myself and I felt an inner support between the navel and the pubic bone. A sort of volume and depth inside my belly was radiated along my spine, my limbs and my legs. Even the head felt different, the neck longer and the breath wider.
That was the first highlight about the benefits I could reach through Pilates.
Soon I decided to follow the training at
Corpus Studios TM (a Pilates method developed by the canadian physiotherapist and gyrotonic master Kelly McKinnon, who become my Teacher) and after a year I started to work as Pilates teacher in Bruxelles.

benefits
Pilates is a movement system that draws on six principles:
Concentration, Centering, Control, Breathing, Precision and Flowing Movement.
It combines deep breathing and controlled, non-weight bearing motion. It releases tensions and aligns the spine, corrects muscular imbalances and creates postural alignment. Further, it promotes core stability, flexibility, and correct joint functioning.
